'Titanic' music composer James Horner dies

(i) Oscar winning music composer James Horner died at the age of 61 in a plane crash near Santa Barbara on Monday. 
(ii) Horner was piloting the small aircraft when it crashed into a remote area about 60 miles north of Santa Barbara, officials said.
(iii) His death was confirmed by Sylvia Patrycja, who is identified on Horner’s film music page as his assistant.
(iv) Horner earned 10 Oscar nominations in all, also being recognised for his work on two other Best Picture winners: Braveheart and A Beautiful Mind.
(v) Horner has three films coming out soon — Southpaw, the boxing drama that stars Jake Gyllenhaal and Rachel McAdams and is due in theaters in July; Jean-Jacques Annaud’s Wolf Totem, out in September; and The 33, a drama based on the 2010 mining disaster in Chile that’s set for November.

E-payments to earn tax breaks
(i) In an attempt to curb black money transactions, the government has introduced a draft proposal that has provisions for income tax benefits for consumers who make a certain proportion of their expenditures through electronic means. 
(ii) If accepted, the proposal could also penalise cash transactions.

(i) The ongoing stalemate over the Lalit Modi controversy could derail the government’s plans to roll out the Goods and Services Tax (GST) regime from the next fiscal.
(ii) The Congress has already identified five “non-negotiables” vis-à-vis the GST. The government’s decision to defend External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj has only added to the Congress’s arsenal.
(iii) The committee had its first meeting on Monday in Chennai where it met representatives of the governments of Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puducherry. 
(iv) It also plans to travel to Kolkata and Mumbai to get the mood in these two regions on the GST which has been billed as the “biggest tax reform since 1947” by Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley.

‘World Vitiligo Day’ to be celebrated in Mysuru
(i) Mysore Dermatology Society (MDS) in association with the K.R.Hospital will observe 'World Vitiligo Day' on June 25 in K.R.Hospital premises and it plans to dispel the misconceptions among people about the Vitiligo and instill a confidence among those afflicted with the disease.
(ii) The MDS would create awareness about definite treatment available for the disease.

12 smart cities to come up in Tamil Nadu

(i) Uttar Pradesh will get to nominate maximum number of cities to be developed as smart cities, followed by Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra.
12 smart cities to come up in Tamil Nadu(ii) The government has assigned number of cities each State/Union Territory can nominate under the 100 Smart Cities project as well as those to be developed under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) scheme.
(iii) Uttar Pradesh has been given the opportunity to nominate 13 cities to be developed as smart cities, while 54 cities in the State have been identified under AMRUT scheme, according to a senior Urban Development Ministry official.

Rajasthan pips Gujarat in solar power, becomes No. 1 in country 
(i) Gujarat, which remained the undisputed leader in solar energy generation till recently in the country, has finally been left behind by its close rival Rajasthan, and given the number of projects in the pipeline, the desert state is likely to retain the honour for quite some time to come.
(ii) According to data released by the Union ministry of new and renewable energy on June 4, 2015, Rajasthan has grabbed the number one position in the country with an installed capacity of 1,167 megawatt against Gujarat's 1,000 MW.
(iii) There is a strong lineup of projects which will be developed in the near future," said B K Doshi, managing director of Rajasthan Renewable Energy Corporation.
(iv) National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) is already in the process of commissioning 680 MW in the state. 
(v) Besides, sources said that Reliance Power and SunEdison are set to put up 800 MW capacity plants in Rajasthan for BSES.

(i) The NDA government is all set to launch three mega urban projects worth Rs 4 lakh crores, which would be unveiled with much fanfare by Prime Minister Narendra Modi here.
(ii) Modi will launch 'Smart City', 'Atal Mission' and 'Housing for All by 2022' at Vigyan Bhawan - all three flagship programmes of the NDA government on June 25, according to sources in Urban Development Ministry. 
(iii) 'Housing for All by 2022' which was cleared by the Cabinet yesterday aims to provide 2 crore affordable housing for urban poor.
(iv) Modi will announce the implementation guidelines for the two big-ticket urban renewal projects - Smart City and Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) besides unveiling the Housing for All by 2022.
