Kolkata Knight Riders, Mumbai Indians to begin IPL-8

(i) Defending champion Kolkata Knight Riders and former winner Mumbai Indians will kick-start the eighth season of Indian Premier League (IPL) at the Eden Gardens on April 8.
(ii) A total of 60 matches, including the four playoffs, will be played over a period of 47 days.
(iii) The MCA International Stadium at Pune will host three home games of Kings XI Punjab, whilst the Dr. YSR ACA-VDCA Stadium at Visakhapatnam will host three home games of Sunrisers Hyderabad.
(iv) Rajasthan Royals will play their home games at the Sardar Patel Gujarat Stadium, Motera, Ahmedabad, and another venue that will be confirmed shortly.
(v) The Pepsi IPL 2015 final will be played at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.


Obama, Xi discuss economic, cyber issues
(i) U.S. President Barack Obama called for "swift work" by Beijing to narrow their differences on cyber issues, the White House said, as the two sides start planning for Chinese President Xi Jinping's visit to Washington in September.
(ii) The world's two biggest economies have been trying to ease tensions amid mutual accusations of hacking and Internet theft.
(iii) In a phone call with Mr. Xi, Mr. Obama said he looked forward to welcoming him to Washington for a state visit later this year, the statement added.

Patna HC rules Nitish appointment as JD(U) legislature party leader illegal

(i) In a significant development the Patna High Court on Wednesday declared appointment of Nitish Kumar as leader of JD(U) legislature party as “illegal”.
(ii) In an ongoing power tussle between Nitish Kumar and Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi, Mr. Kumar was earlier elected as leader in the legislature party meeting called by party president Sharad Yadav. 
(iii) Altogether, 97 JD(U) MLAs and 37 members of the State Legislative Council were present in the meeting.
(iv) Assembly Speaker Uday Narayan Chaudhury had later nominated Nitish Kumar as the legislature party leader in the House.

TN has no jurisdiction to appoint SPP, says Karnataka HC
(i) The Karnataka High Court on Wednesday held that the Tamil Nadu Government has no jurisdiction to appoint the prosecutor to appear on behalf of the prosecution in the appeal filed by AIADMK general secretary Jayalalithaa, who has questioned her conviction in the disproportionate assets case.
(ii) However, the court said that G. Bhavani Singh can continue to represent as Special Public Prosecutor in terms of the order passed by the Karnataka Government in 2013 appointing him as SPP but not as counsel for the prosecution in terms of authorisation given to him by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption, Chennai.
(iii) The court has dismissed the appeal filed by DMK leader K. Anbazhagan seeking a direction to appoint a new SPP to conduct appeals filed by Jayalalithaa and others.

G20 pledges to improve business environment, check tax evasion

(i) Committing to resist protectionism, the G20 nations have pledged to improve business environment to promote growth and strengthen transparency to prevent cross border tax evasion.
(ii) The G20 Ministers also expressed concern over terrorist activities and called upon the member nations to expeditiously comply with international norms concerning exchange of information and freezing of terrorist assets.
(iii) The communique issued at the end of the two-day meeting of G20 Finance Ministers and central bank governors late last night also underlined the need for IMF quota reforms to give greater representation to emerging economies. 
(iv) India was represented by Minister of State for Finance Jayant Sinha and RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan at the meeting.

Godrej Consumer Products appoints V Srinivasan as CFO 
(i) FMCG major Godrej Consumer Products BSE 4.91 % today appointed V Srinivasan as the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) with effect from April 1, 2015. 
(ii) Srinivasan replaces P Ganesh, who will be moving to another group company from April 1, 2015. 
(iii) In a BSE filing, Godrej Consumer Products said: "V Srinivasan has been appointed CFO and Company Secretary of the company with effect from April 1, 2015 and shall ensure compliances with effect from the same date." 

SpiceJet sells air tickets from Rs 599

(i) Low cost airline SpiceJet has launched a sale of four lakh low-fare tickets, including one lakh at Rs 599, all inclusive, in advance purchase scheme.
(ii) This is the fourth sale in the last two weeks when the airline underwent ownership change.
(iii) “This offer is also available for international flights (except Colombo, Kabul and Dubai-Ahmedabad-Dubai sectors), at fares starting at just Rs. 3,499 all-in,” SpiceJet said on Wednesday.
(iv) Bookings under this latest offer are open now and will close at midnight on February 13, 2015. The travel period covered in this sale is from July 1, 2015 to October 24, 2015.
