Amitabh Bachchan to be brand ambassador
(i) Veteran Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan will act as brand ambassador for health
sector in Andhra Pradesh.(ii) Disclosing this Health Minister Kamineni Srinivas here on Tuesday said Mr. Amitabh Bachchan gave his consent to promote health awareness and help build health sector and would offer his services free of cost.
(iii) Mr. Srinivas said the health sector was the worst hit due to bifurcation as major corporate hospitals and medical and health institutions were all located in Hyderabad.
(iv) The State government was seeking the help of experts and renowned medical doctors and specialists in various fields to promote health facilities from primary health centres to tertiary hospitals in public sector and offer latest treatment for diseases like cancer.
Russian Popov Ivan won 7th Chennai International Open Grandmaster Chess title
(i) Popov Ivan of Russia on 6 January 2015 won 7th Chennai International Open Grandmaster Chess title. He clinched the title via super tie-breaker after eight players ended with 7.5 points each.
(ii) He winner Popov Ivan was awarded the cash purse of two lakhs rupees, while Runner-up Dzhumaev Marat of Uzbek GM got one lakh fifty thousand rupees and third placed GM Mozharov Mikhail of Russia secured a cash award of one lakh fifteen thousand rupees.
(iii) For the first time in the history of Chennai Open, there was an eight way tie and it was resolved on quotient.
Ordinance to amend Citizenship Act promulgated; Person of Indian Origin to get
lifetime Indian visa(i) On the eve of the opening of the three-day meet of Indian diaspora in Gujarat, government on Tuesday promulgated an ordinance that seeks to merge Person of Indian Origin (PIO) and Overseas Citizenship of India (OCI) schemes, by which PIOs will also get life-long Indian visa.
(ii) The President has signed the Citizenship Ordinance, President's press secretary Venu Rajamony said in response to queries.
(iii) The amendments through the ordinance to the Citizenship Act will benefit PIOs and will give them benefits like life-long visa and exemption from appearing before the local police station on every visit.
BRICS to set up green fund
(i) The BRICS grouping comprising Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa is discussing a green fund under the New Development Bank to undertake green projects and develop green technologies towards sustainable development.
(ii) This will be part of the discussions during the BRICS environmental ministers meeting in April in Russia where they would discuss green economy and tackling challenges of climate change among the BRICS region said visiting Russian Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Sergei Donskoi on Friday.
North Korea test-fires new anti-ship cruise missile
(i) North Korea said Saturday that it has test-fired a new anti-ship cruise missile, a move experts in Seoul viewed as an attempt to raise tensions ahead of joint military drills between the United States and South Korea.
(ii) North Korean leader Kim Jong Un was on-site to observe the successful testing of the “ultra-precision” rocket conducted by the country’s East Sea fleet, the North’s official Korean Central News Agency said.
(iii) The official Rodong Sinmun newspaper published front-page photos of Kim watching a missile being fired off a naval vessel, although the state media outlets did not mention the time or location of the exercise.
