CEO selected to train DCs in New Delhi
(i) Impressed by the performance of the district in implementing “Swachcha Bharat” Mission

(SBA), the Union Government has selected Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Rohini Sindhuri to train District Collectors/Deputy Commissioners of various States in New Delhi.
(ii) The Mandya Zilla Panchayat has launched a massive drive to provide individual toilets to 1.02 lakh households during 2014-15. 
(iii) And, since July last year, it had constructed 75,000 individual toilets across the district.
(iv) Subsequently, the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation has selected Ms. Sindhuri - and two other officials - as Resource Persons for the two-day orientation training programme on SBA, which will start in New Delhi on Thursday.

Next phase of Jan Dhan Yojana to mobilise saving: Jaitley
(i) The next phase of Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) would be focused on mobilisation of financial savings to reverse the decline in the savings rate, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said on Wednesday.
(ii) This would be possible by activating the PMJDY accounts by progressive use of Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), increasing financial literacy and creating universal social security cover for all citizens, especially the poor, under-privileged and workers in un-organised sector, he said.
(iii) It was also reported that the credit growth in housing sector is higher compared to the overall credit growth and the NPAs are lower, making this sector a priority sector for further growth of credit without concomitant fear of rise in NPAs.

Solar-powered plane SI2 lands in Ahmedabad

(i) Solar Impulse 2 (Si2), the world’s first solar flight circumventing the globe without a drop of fuel, landed here on Tuesday night after a delay of two days.
(ii) The Swiss aircraft touched down at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport at 11.24 p.m. Gujarat Chief Secretary D.J. Pandian received pilot Bertrand Piccard at the airport and presented him with a Gujarati shawl. “I am happy to be in India,” said Mr. Piccard.
(iii) Solar Impulse 2 took the two promoters 12 years to develop and carry out feasibility tests. The aircraft will head next for Varanasi, where it will make a pit stop. 
(iv) It is expected to land in Varanasi on the night of March 15 before leaving for Mandalay in Myanmar.

Jaitley to unveil Gandhi statue in U.K.
(i) The centrepiece of a two-day visit by Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley to the United Kingdom on March 13 and 14 will be the unveiling of a statue of Mahatma Gandhi in Parliament Square.
(ii) Mr. Jaitley — who is visiting the U.K. officially for the first time as Finance Minister — will also have separate meetings with Prime Minister David Cameron and Chancellor George Osborne; and address foreign institutional investors for the first time since the Indian budget was announced.
(iii) The ceremony to unveil the statue will take place on March 14. 
(iv) The first of an Indian, and the only one in the square of a public figure who has not been in office, the statue has been inspired by the photographs of Gandhi when he visited 10 Downing Street in 1931.

Obama names David Hale as ambassador to Pak

(i) U.S. President Barack Obama has nominated veteran diplomat David Hale as the next ambassador to Pakistan.
(ii) A career foreign service official, Mr.Hale is currently the U.S. Ambassador to Lebanon, a position he has held since 2013.
(iii) Mr. Obama named him for the post on Tuesday and if confirmed by the Senate, Mr. Hale would replace Cameron Munter.
(iv) Mr. Hale previously served as the Special Envoy for Middle East Peace from 2011 to 2013, and as Deputy Special Envoy for Middle East Peace from 2009 to 2011.
(v) From 2008 to 2009, he was a Deputy Assistant Secretary of State in the Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs at the Department of State.
