Walmart India announces two new executive appointments
(i) Wal-Mart India Pvt. Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of Wal-Mart Stores Inc., announced
two new executive appointments. (ii) Ashwin Mittal has been appointed as Walmart India's new chief financial officer (CFO) and Javier Rojo will lead real estate and business development.
(iii) Jill Anderson, currently the CFO of Walmart India, will soon repatriate back to Walmart in US.
President & CEO Walmart India, Krish Iyer said, "The two key executive appointments for Walmart India, reflects our commitment to India. Ashwin comes with in-depth knowledge, wide experience and commitment that will help us strengthen our processes even more in the years to come."
U.S. adds robust 2,95,000 jobs
(i) U.S. employers extended a healthy streak of hiring in February by adding 295,000 jobs, the 12th straight monthly gain above 200,000.
(ii) The Labor Department said on Friday that the unemployment rate fell to 5.5 per cent from 5.7 per cent.
(iii) But the decline in the rate occurred mainly because some people out of work stopped looking for jobs and were no longer counted as unemployed.
(iv) The strong job gains weren’t enough to boost wages by much. The average hourly wage rose just 3 cents in February to $24.78 an hour.
NPCI links 15 crore bank accounts with Aadhar
(i) National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), the umbrella organisation for all retail payments system in India, on Friday, said that it reached a major milestone of successfully linking 15 crore bank accounts with Aadhaar number.
(ii) Beneficiaries of all types of government subsidies /benefit transfers are expected to be brought under the linkage programme very soon.
(iii) “The current focus is on linking the bank accounts of 17 crore DBTL (direct benefit transfer for LPG) beneficiaries with Aadhaar numbers, latest by June 30, 2015,” NPCI stated in a release.
Najma slams UPA govt for Nirbhaya documentary
(i) Union Minister Najma Heptullah on Saturday slammed the previous United Progressive
Alliance government for allowing to make the controversial BBC documentary on the 2012 Delhi gangrape incident, saying it did not check the parameters, script or nature of the documentary being made.(ii) “When the previous government gave permission for the film, it should have checked what the parameters, the scripts are and what they were making.
(iii) There should have been some control but it failed to do it,” she told reporters here, strongly supporting Home Minister Rajnath Singh’s stand on the issue.
(iv) “The action taken by the Home Minister I think is a strong step... whatever steps the government takes keeping various things in mind, it will be right,” she said.

Women's Reservation Bill: The story so far
(i) The 18 year-journey of the Women’s Reservation Bill was marked by high drama and hit roadblocks in each of its outings in Parliament before the historic measure cleared the first legislative hurdle in 2010.
(ii) Sadly enough, a number of male parliamentarians over the years have opposed the passing of the Bill, leaving it in its current state.
(iii) The battle for greater representation to women in Lok Sabha and State Assemblies was routinely punctuated by frayed tempers and war of words which sometimes got physical, as different governments since 1996 tried to get the Women’s Reservation Bill passed in Parliament without success.
(iv) The Bill also lapsed each time the House was dissolved and was re-introduced by the Government of the day.
Delhi hold Goa in Santosh Trophy
(i) In what was essentially a must-win match for Goa, the former champions started with plenty of promise but paid a hefty price for their wastefulness in front of goal.
(ii) Strikers Marcus Mascarenhas and Jerose Oliveira could not convert the numerous chances that came their way and even captain Gabriel Fernandes discovered to his horror that his best touch in front of him had deserted him.

Mukesh Kumar wins PGTI Cochin Masters
(i) Seasoned Mukesh Kumar brought all his experience to the fore as he fired a second
successive six-under 66 in the fourth round to clinch the PGTI Cochin Masters, his first title in two years, at the CIAL Golf and Country Club, here today. (ii) Mukesh finished with a winning total of 14-under-274, two strokes ahead of Rahil Gangjee and defending champion Shubhankar Sharma, to climb from third place to first position in the Rolex Rankings.
(iii) The Madhya Pradesh golfer, who was the overnight joint leader, was off the blocks with two tap-in birdies on the first two holes.
(iv) Mukesh followed up his good start with a 25-feet birdie conversion on the fifth. His only bogey came on the eighth where he found the hazard with his tee shot.
