Definition of Parts of speech
There are eight types of parts of speech are there in English language. These parts of speech defines how words are used in a sentence. And here is list of all parts of speech with example.
Noun-
Anything we can see is noun, it may be a concrete or abstract thing.
Example:
Man, Book, Sweetness, Honesty etc.
Pronoun-
It is used as a substitute for noun or clause.
Example:
Ram is not here, he is ill.
He failed, which broke his heart.
Adjective-
Adjective is used to qualify a noun or to describe a noun.
Example:
This is a dark room.
Give me a little milk.
Many peoples were present.
Verb-
Verb signifies the activity of a person or any kind of thing.
Example:
He walks fast.
The rose smells sweet.
Adverb-
It is used to describe the meaning of a verb. Sometimes it is used to describe Adjective or Adverb also.
Example:
He walks fast.
He is very clever.
I did it quite easily.
Preposition-
It is placed before noun or any word related to noun. It make a links with other words of a sentence.
Example:
She is in the garden.
He came to see me.
Conjunction-
It is used to bind words, phrases and clauses.
Example:
As he was ill, he did not go to school.
He said this to Ram & Shyam.
Intergection-
It is a word used to express emotion in a sentence.
Example:
Alas! he is dead.
Bravo! you are successful.
