Delhi elections on February 7
(i) Delhi elections will be held on February 7, Chief Election Commissioner V.S. Sampath told
reporters in the capital on Monday.
(ii) The counting of polls will be held on February 10th. The last date for filing the nomination is January 24.
(iii) Delhi headed for a mid-term Assembly election after all the major political parties — the BJP, Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) — expressed their inability to form a government.
Vice-chairman of NITI Aayog is an NRI: Jiatley
(i) Arvind Panagariya, Vice-Chairman of the newly-created NITI Aayog, is a non-resident India, Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley told an audience at the Vibrant Gujarat Summit on Monday.
(ii) He was responding to a question on whether NRIs could get representation on the Aayog.
(iii) “Mr. Panagariya has spent a large part of his life in international universities. Our Chief Economic Adviser (Arvind Subramanian) is also in the same category,” Mr. Jaitley said.

Adani, SunEdison to build $4 billion solar panel unit
(i) Indian conglomerate Adani Group and global energy firm SunEdison have announced a deal to build the largest solar panel factory in the energy-starved nation, worth $4 billion.
(ii) The project will be set up in the next three to four years in Mundra city in the western state of Gujarat, a press release said late Sunday.
(iii) Mundra already hosts India's largest private port owned by the Adani Group.

RBI, ECB ink MoU for cooperation in central banking
(i) Reserve Bank and the European Central Bank (ECB) have signed a memorandum of understanding for cooperation in the area of central banking.
(ii) “Raghuram Rajan, Governor, Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and Mario Draghi, President of the European Central Bank (ECB) on Monday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation in the field of central banking,” RBI said in a release.
(iii) The MoU provides a framework for regular exchange of information, policy dialogue and technical cooperation between the two institutions.
Nuclear bomb designer wins top science award
(i) Nuclear physicist Yu Min won China's top science award on Friday for his outstanding contribution to the country's hydrogen bomb research.
(ii) The award, given annually since 2000, honors scientists who make a major contribution to China's scientific and technological development and achieve key breakthroughs in cutting-edge scientific and technological fields.
(iii) Twenty-five distinguished scientists have won the top award since 2000. It is presented to no more than two scientists annually.
(iv) Yu, 89, won an award of 5 million yuan (S$1.07 million).

Roger Federer won Brisbane International Tennis title
(i) 17-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer of Switzerland on 11 January 2015 won the Brisbane International Tennis title. He won the Brisbane title for the first time.
(ii) In the finals played at Brisbane in Australia, he defeated third seeded Milos Raonic of Canada 6-4, 6-7 (2), 6-4.
