Palestine to join International Criminal Court on April 1

(i) United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said Palestine will join the International Criminal Court (ICC) on April 1, a high stakes move that will enable the Palestinians to pursue war crimes charges against Israel.
(ii) The Palestinians submitted the documents ratifying the Rome Statute that established the court last Friday, the last formal step to becoming a member of the world’s permanent war crimes tribunal.

44 Indians, PIOs in Forbes annual list of global prodigies
(i) There are 44 Indians and people of Indian-origin in the list, who are doing exemplary work like inventing an inexpensive method of purifying water, working on international food security initiatives and developing crutches that don’t hurt armpits.
(ii) Nitesh Banta, 28, who cofounded Rough Draft Ventures, an organisation that helps student entrepreneurs receive up to $25,000 to start a company.
(iii) Avinash Gandhi, 26, is making waves in Hollywood as an agent for talent agency William Morris Endeavour. 
(iv) Partha Unnava, 22, is the CEO of Better Walk, which develops a better set of crutches that don’t hurt people’s armpits.

Raosaheb Danve is Maharashtra BJP chief
(i) Union Minister of State for Consumer Affairs and Food and Public Distribution Raosaheb Patil Danve, who had been a supporter of the late Gopinath Munde, senior party leader, was appointed president of the Bharatiya Janata Party Maharashtra unit. 
(ii) The appointment is seen as a move to keep the powerful Munde camp in good humour.
(iii) Mr. Danve, 59, a Maratha face of the party, will succeed Devendra Fadnavis, who, during his two-year tenure, steered the State unit to a win in the Assembly election and was rewarded with the post of Chief Minister.

Youth can contribute to new India: Sushma Swaraj

(i) Sushma Swaraj, Minister of External Affairs and Overseas Indian Affairs on Wednesday urged youths to contribute to India’s emerging growth story.
(ii) “The world no longer considers India as a country mired in poverty, but sees us as a rising power. India has a strong democracy and the youth are its assets. 
(iii) Over 50 per cent of India’s population is under 25 years and soon one fifth of the world’s working population will be in India.

LIC launches co-branded credit card with UAE bank
(i) LIC International of India, an arm of India's top insurance company LIC, has partnered with First Gulf Bank (FGB), a leading bank in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to launch a first-of-its-kind co-branded credit card in the Gulf nation. 
(ii) According to a report in Al Bawaba online, this is the first time that a leading insurance company has entered into a strategic alliance with a leading bank in the country to create a unified payment solution. 

President Mukherjee signs ordinance that would grant life-long Indian visa to PIOs

(i) Ahead of the three-day meet of Indian diaspora in Gujarat, government on Tuesday promulgated an ordinance that seeks to merge Person of Indian Origin (PIO) and Overseas Citizenship of India (OCI) schemes, by which PIOs will also get life-long Indian visa. 
(ii) The President has signed the Citizenship Ordinance, President’s press secretary Venu Rajamony said in response to queries. 
(iii) The amendments through the ordinance to the Citizenship Act will benefit PIOs and will give them benefits like life-long visa and exemption from appearing before the local police station on every visit.

Polish motorcyclist dies in Dakar Rally
(i) Polish motorcyclist Michal Hernik (KTM) died of unknown causes during the Dakar Rally the organisers said.
(ii) Hernik, 39, was found lying dead near the third stage route between the Argentinean cities of San Juan and Chilecito. 
(iii) He showed no signs of an accident, reports Xinhuaon Tuesday.

New Zealand completes 2-0 series win over Sri Lanka
(i) New Zealand wrapped up a 193-run victory over Sri Lanka on Wednesday to complete a 2-0 win in the two-Test series.
(ii) Mark Craig took 4-53 as New Zealand bowled out Sri Lanka for 196 with a session to spare at the Basin Reserve.
(iii) The Black Caps have not lost a test series since defeat in England in March, 2013.

Pak World Cup squad: Fast bowler Sohail Khan in

(i) Pakistan has recalled fast bowler Sohail Khan while including Mohammad Hafeez as a specialist opening batsman in its 15-man Cricket World Cup squad on Wednesday.
(ii) The 30-year-old Khan was not among the 30-man preliminary squad, but forced his way back into the team after four years with his recent form in domestic matches.
