Singhal is new Haryana DGP
(i) Y.P. Singhal was appointed Wednesday as Haryana's Director General of Police (DGP).
(ii) He replaces S.N. Vashisht who has been shifted as Director General-State Vigilance Bureau.
(iii) The previous Congress government had appointed Vashisht.
Durga Shakti Nagpal appointed OSD to Agriculture minister Radha Mohan Singh
(i) A young IAS officer Durga Shakti Nagpal, who faced ire of the Uttar Pradesh Government after she took on sand mafia and illegal construction, was today appointed as Officer on Special Duty to Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh.
(ii) The Appointments Committee of Cabinet, headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, cleared the name of the 29-year-old Nagpal.
Gopalkrishna Gandhi declined Pravasi Bharatiya Divas invitation: Centre
(i) The government on Wednesday said it had invited the grandson of Mahatma Gandhi, Gopalkrishna Gandhi for the 13th Pravasi Bhartiya Divas in Gandhinagar but the latter declined the same citing prior commitments.(ii) The theme of the three-day event, which coincides with the 100th anniversary of arrival of the Father of Nation to the country from South Africa, revolves around the Mahatma’s contribution to the society.
Indian diaspora ‘great capital’: PM
(i) The Indian diaspora is a “great capital” for the country which needs to be nurtured, Prime Minister Narendra Modi told a gathering of expatriates on Thursday.
(ii) ”My conviction is that Indian diaspora is a great capital for us in the global context. The more we nurture it, the more strong will be our presence globally.
(iii) Modi addressed the gathering after formally inaugurating the 13th Pravasi Bhartiya Divas at Mahatma Mandir.
Atul Khare is U.N. Under-Secretary-General
(i) United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has announced the appointment of Atul Khare of India as Under-Secretary-General, Department of Field Support (DFS). (ii) He succeeds Ameerah Haq of Bangladesh.
(iii) Dr. Khare, a former Indian Foreign Service officer and AIIMS graduate, brings to the position strategic management and innovative reform expertise in both headquarters and field perspective, a U.N. statement said on Wednesday.
IIM-Bangalore hikes fees by 10%
(i) The most-coveted management course in the country just got costlier. IIM-Bangalore has increased the fees for its flagship post-graduate programme (PGP) from Rs 17 lakh to Rs 18.7 lakh.
(ii) IIM-B will remain the costliest among its premier sister institutions.
(iii) The decision to increase the fees was made at a meeting of the board of governors on Wednesday.
(iv) The fees have been increased after two years, which has been the practice at the 41 year-old institute.
CommonFloor.com raises $15 million from Google Capital
(i) Online real estate platform CommonFloor.com has raised funds from Google Capital amplifying the digital influence on property buyers in the country's $80 billion organized real estate market.
(ii) The Bengaluru-based company is learnt to have raised around $15 million from Google Capital, said sources familiar with the development.

(i) Veteran all-rounder Grant Elliot and ace left-arm spinner Daniel Vettori has been named in New Zealand’s squad for next month’s Cricket World Cup, announced on Thursday.

(iii) Black Caps coach Mike Hesson has said that the selectors have succeeded in picking the squad focussing on finding the right balance.
